Do I have a suitable location for a wind turbine?

Ideally the location of the wind turbine should not be obstructed by any tall trees or buildings, it should be in an open space facing the prevailing wind. The minimum wind speed required is greater than 5 metres per second (m/s). This information can be gained from climatic databases on the web or by monitoring the wind conditions of the site. How much energy will my wind turbine produce?

The amount of energy a wind turbine will produce is based on the strength of the wind. The power output depends on the size of the turbine and the consistency of wind speed.

What is the payback time for a wind turbine installation?

Wind energy is subsidised by the Feed in Tariff (FIT) payment, and export tariff. The payback duration depends on the size of wind turbine you choose, we provide a payback calculation specific to each quote so please contact us to get the most accurate information specific to your need.

How long will it take to install the wind turbine?

The wind turbine will require a concrete foundation, we need to allow sufficent curing time for the concrete to harden which will depend on the time of year, we generally allow 2 weeks. The erection of the turbine itself is usually completed within a day.

What happens if I move house?

A wind turbine will increase the value of your home should you come to sell it, the new homeowners will be able to transfer the FIT payments.

How long will the wind turbine last?

Wind turbines we sell have a lifetime of 20+ years, the turbines if well maintained should last considerably longer.

What maintenance does a wind turbine require?

Yearly servicing is required to ensure the wind turbine maintains its manufacturer’s warranty (every 2 years for the Kingspan KW6).
