Family owned Lakeside Lodge Golf Centre includes four golf courses, accommodation, tenpin bowling, conference/meeting facilities, licensed bar/restaurant and health club. The centre had previously used LPG for heating and had an Abel Energy 40kW roof mounted solar array installed in 2012.
Abel Energy supplied a 40ft containerised system, housing a Herz Firematic 201kW biomass boiler, 2 Froling 1500l buffer tanks and 24m3 internal fuel store. Fuel pellets are blown into the store and transferred to the boiler via a flexible screw auger.
Heat produced by the biomass system is transferred via the existing district heat main to the Main Building, Leisure Centre and Bowling Alley, where it is integrated into the existing heat and hot water systems with hydraulic separation via heat exchangers.
Lakeside Lodge now also claims the Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) which is guaranteed by Ofgem for 20 years. The quarterly income from the RHI, combined with the fuel savings of installing a biomass boiler offers Lakeside Lodge a payback of just 6 years and CO2
savings of 87% per year.
